I need to start planning my big day, tips and tricks from your hair and make up artist by Anna Nuet

Once your big day is getting close and you have picked, venue, photographer, hair and make up artist etc  is time to get into details. How to organize the big day and how to create a timeline for the day. The hairstylist and make up artist is the first vendor you will meet in the morning  so the first one on the chain of all the vendors.

When my brides ask me what time should we start I normally ask a few questions, first of all we need to know how many services I will be doing in total, second and very important is  the photographer schedule, as I said we will work on a chain so we all have to be flexible to, of course, please the bride but still be able to do our jobs perfectly.

How to detail a timeline?

I say hair takes 30/40 minutes  all depends on hair texture, length, thickness and hairstyle to achieve. I normally know how is the bride’s hair but I don’t about the other ladies (bridesmaids, moms , other guests) so it could be faster or take longer depending on that. For a professional, long lasting hairstyle it can not be done in less time.

Hair washed and dried from the day before for different reasons. Hair will be easier to style if it’s not recently washed and silky. Any styling will hold better, curls, waves, updos in general. If just one of the ladies shows up with the hair not blow dried or even wet it will take another extra 20/30 minutes on top of the 30 for the styling and could mess up all the timeline. Just for one person we could run behind an hour.

Make up takes about 30 minutes and only if there is something needs to be changed, will take longer.

As more ladies I have to get ready earlier we would need to start buuut if the bride doesn’t want to get up super early on her wedding day we could always start doing the rest of the ladies and the bride  come later.

When deciding the starting time and if it’s not a very early morning call I like to give an extra 30/60 minutes and I will explain why. There is a A LOT going on on that day and we all want to make it run smoothly also we want you to enjoy it! While I am with the ladies getting them ready you will need to have breakfast and lunch or at least some snacks, there is time needed for bathroom breaks, for I forgot something and I need to go back to my room!, for cigarrete break, for selfies, for gifts and kisses, for champagne toast … trust me … I’ve seen it all! Also someone could run late for the pick up in the morning or over sleep, we are all humans that’s why life happens and we have to prevent !

About the photographer timeline, if you are planning on doing the “first look” think about at what time this will be done, as earlier the first look is scheduled earlier your hair And make up will need to be done ( think how much time it would be in between the first look and the ceremony!).  Also if you decide on doing family and wedding party pics before the ceremony so,  lets say you all need to be done by 1pm instead than 3pm, we will need to take these 2 hours from the morning and start earlier.

When the bride’s hair and make up should be done? Again all depends on photographer needs. I like to prep the hair earlier in the morning ( set up the curls on pins ) and style it mid morning or even after the make up it’s done. Some brides like to be the last ones on hair and make up some want to be done on the very beginning because they don’t want to be on pics without any make up on. That’s your choice !

Regarding venue/hotel where to get ready you will always need to check at what time we can start in the morning and use the bridal suite, in case of a venue, or what time the hotel will allow outside vendors to come in, depending on day pass polices.

When I go to Resorts I am always 30 minutes, at least, earlier at the front door because some of them are very strict and even knowing us if they don’t have our name at the front door , meaning you told your wedding coordinator you are bringing me in at certain time and she/he let the front desk know in order for them to say yes , it could take us forever to come in. Plus, once on the property, we still need to check in, leave our ID and get a bracelet. (Please check the vendor fees at your resort, it changes every year! )

This simple step that you think could be done in 15/20 minutes could takes us an hour or more! I have been there! And this is not how you want your morning to be started. My advice is, when getting ready at the resort, check, double check, triple check our name is on the front door the night before! Even though I always email the bride once I get at the door or if anything is going on.

I always email my bride the night before to check the starting time with her and see if there is any last minute situation. When the getting ready is at the venue I will normaly get in touch with the wedding coordinator to check the times with them and make sure we are all on the same page.

And I think it’s all… I hope I helped a lil to have an idea on how to organize  your day and things you might didn’t think on count when making a timeline.

I wanted to end saying All the vendors in PC are a little family, enjoy working together and we all give our 100% on each wedding for you to have an amazing day.

Thanks for having me <3

Samira and Jonathan, Jellyfish Restaurant, August 8th 2015 by Anna Nuet

Samira was one of these ladies easy to connect with, I loved how honest she was telling me how much she loves make up and warned me she will  add a few touches after what I would do, like eyebrows and work on her lashes. Nothing better than having a client who knows exactly what she wants and hey! I was  totally open to listen and let her add her magical touch ups! Honestly she did really know how to accentuate her beautiful Persian features and made a beautiful bride.

She was a lil concerned about her hair because she has very thin hair and it doesn't reacts so good with humidity,  like most of my brides she  wanted full and kinda big hair, and wanted to stay.  I think  I achieved it ;)

We had a busy and fun  morning at Jellyfish bridal room in between of kids smiles , fun stories from the past and lots of hugs.

Stunning Jellyfish Restaurant as usual ( I have been there hundreds of times and I am never tired of it ), blue sky, a few rain drops and palm trees. We had it all!

And see the sunset! Thanks life for sunsets!

Yoel & Anna, September 24th 2014, Isla Saona by Anna Nuet

Where to start when you decide to blog your own wedding and you are actually on the wedding industry, it was difficult for me to plan something that I live every day, I live on wedding mood almost 24/7 and funny, I never dreamed having my own wedding so it wasn't on my head at all !

I get asked very often how did I meet Yoel, my husband and if I moved here because of him, it would be a god start for a love story right? It gets better!!!

I lived in NY for almost 4 years and my last winter there I said, no more miserable winter for me, enough snow ! I am going somewhere warm and with palm trees! Even if a lot of my old friends thought I had a New York spirit I actually always thought I belong somewhere in the Caribbean, white sand, turquoise water and palm trees, loots of palm trees! So I decided to come visit DR in November 2012 to see how I liked it and I invited my parents to come from Barcelona and meet here for my 30th birthday. Long story short the day I was turning 30 my mom insisted on going to Saona Island for a excursion and honestly I hated the idea ( because I don't like turisty things) but I agreed to do something nice with my parents. Yoel was working on the catamaran we took to go to Saona and after having a few drinks myself and him giving me a few shy looks we had our first dance, my mom actually recorded it!

I went back to NY and I emailed a photographer I saw online , Asia Pimentel, I saw she did weddings in Saona so I decided tell her I was planning/thinking on going to DR maybe next year during the winter. Next think you know, after a few days, I received my first inquire from one of Asia's brides and  she booked me right away and more brides emailed me, and more bookings and more inquiries, all of a sudden I was moving to DR in like 6 months! I went back to NY a few times to do weddings I had booked and few private clients and that's all! I haven't seen NY since September 2013!

The same year, November 2013, on my birthday and the same day we met a year before Yoel proposed, and he said " I know you don't want to get married but I think you deserve a beautiful and unforgettable  day, same as your brides have ... " And I said YES!

We decided  getting married the same day as my parents September 24th and I wanted to have Asia to capture our day because, because of her I started my business here with the best luck and I wanted the same on my marriage. Asia is very special for me :)

I had Danielle Darmanin doing my hair, she was my roomate in NY and basically my family! She works for the international trainings  for Matrix NY and Danielle Dvash doing my make up, Danielle is an excellent make up artist and cosmetician   in NYC, I had the pleasure to work with her at Trump Soho Spa.

I wanted a messy messy look and not much make up because I barely wear any, they both nailed it!

Who said I wasn't going to "work" on my wedding day? Only for my mama :)

And this is how I got to my ceremony, on a speed boat! hair and make up done!

40 minutes ride from Bayahibe to Isla Saona.

Yoel was there earlier in the morning with his brothers, Mayte and Nati to find a spot where to set our ceremony, yep! we didn't have one! So everything was a surprise for me!

Of course whatever they improvized was amazing, I wasn't picky, I didn't care about lots of details or decoration I wanted as more natural as possible respecting the beauty around, I didn't need much!

Mayte still laughing when Yoel showed up with half of a palm tree from the forest to put it on the gazebo and fresh coconuts for our guests.

And that was my dreamed bridal room....

Mayte Mari did my wedding dress, from scratch! We bought the fabric in Barcelona and she designed it for me, cut the lace on lil pieces and placed them to cover what we wanted to cover ;) she actually finished it on me as you can see on the picture, sewed the back once I had it on.

We were so lucky to have Mayte and Nati who even the crazy idea of doing it on a virgin island with NOTHING there never said NO. They both can for sure make your dreams come true. Eternal LOVE for them!

As I said before I didn't care much about decoration and I let Mayte and Nati do their thing. I only said I wanted to use as decor in our tables sea shells, corals and other stuff we found on different beaches around the DR in our trips.

Our favors; coffee from Yoel's grandparents plantation, picked, toasted and grounded by Yoel's grandma and granddad.

Denise Pool, past bride of mine and friend who crashed our wedding and ended being our Mc

We would like to thank to our families, friends and everyone who helped and worked hard to make this dream come true and for being there with us to celebrate our LOVE story.

Brittany and Craig, Huracán Café, Pics by PhotoSouvenir by Anna Nuet

Tuesday July 7th,

As normally, we met early in the morning at Huracán Café bridal room. When I chat with my brides to give them a timeline and give them an starting time everything sounds very early but honestly mornings go sooo fast, next thing you know "You are walking down the aisle" I say ! Also is pretty cool seeing your venue being transformed, spending the morning out of the resort where you can not be bothered (take notes! ) with millions of last minute questions and instead, sipping mimosas by the beach with the girls!

As the morning goes every single detail is being set outside you think it can not get better but it's actually possible, I think the decor ladies on any Off resort venues always exceed brides expectations because is not the same "Pinning " pics on Pinterest than seeing it in person, specially if it's your wedding!

Mayte and Nati, of course did it again and I love hearing my brides saying " I feel I just walked into my Pinterest board, but better! "

Kyla, Brittany's daughter was very excited to get pampered too, so cute!

I always tell the brides they are going to start to feeling it real once the photographer and videographer shows up, then seems that the show is about to start.

Diego and Juan from Cores Films always with a smile :)

Mother and dad of the bride :)

Brittany and Craig, happily ever after.

Renee and Ryan, Huracan Cafe, May 25th by Anna Nuet

It took me a while to blog Renee´s wedding, in between the continued weddings I had the past 3 months and finding the time to seat and take a look to all the pictures Karina Jensen ( the awesome photographer) sent me. Finally I am here , and I think I will be posting more pics than ever before because I couldn't decide which ones represent better the couple, the beautiful bride, the beautiful decor, the perfect lighting...

These two always keep us company during the morning on the bridal room :)

Awilda & Anthony, Paradisus Punta Cana, March 22nd by Anna Nuet

Awilda and Anthony got married at Paradisus Punta Cana on March 22nd. I have to admit,  every time I have a Dominican couple I am tented to stay to the party because I know is going to be fuuuuun !

Awilda and Anthony live in NYC and how small is the world, I lived just one stop from her in Brooklyn for the time I was there, I wish I would of know her then , she  has a beautiful soul!

Our morning with the ladies was filled of good music, mimosas, for them not me :) , and delicious snack plates with cheese, fresh fruit and strawberries with chocolate! oh and lots of fun stories and memories of NYC . One of Awilda's bridesmaid was getting married in less than 2 months and asked me to fly to NY for her wedding, unfortunately I was booked that day... I wish I could of make it ... NY I miss you!

Awilda's hair in process...

Emily and Matt, Huracan Café, May 22nd by Anna Nuet

Friday May 22nd at 9am we started the glamming up of Emily and her fun bridesmaids at Huracan Cafe bridal suite.  Emily and I  have been chatting about the bridesmaids hair and make up, Emily choose the perfect styles depending on the girls hair types and length and found the most beautiful dresses for them, the colors were just sooo pretty.

The decor at Huracan was so perfect, Mayte and Nati never disappointing !  Golds, sparkles, sequins and pinks everything was perfectly matched, every single detail.

Emily ready for the first look...

I just can not get enough of Emily's smile!

Cheers to the beautiful couple for a whole life of happiness!

Dania and Terron wedding, May 9th by Anna Nuet

Dania was my sweet dominican bride on May 8th. We met up at Now Larimar for the getting ready and first look but her wedding was at Trendy, a restaurant placed in the residential Cocotal Golf in Bavaro. Mayte and Nati were the wedding planners and Michael Steingard was encharged of the portraits. I believe it was our second time working together and I am still thrilled with his work, he is such a talented photographer and fun to work with.

Michael captured perfectly not just Dania's beauty also the best smiles of the happy couple, you will see on the pictures how LOVE is everywhere....

A few pictures of the decor at Trendy , vintage french chic inspired , very pretty!

Wishing you both an entire life of happiness and love!
